“Oh Ye of Little Faith” – The President Is Just Fine

“Those who underestimate Barack Obama, underestimate him at their own peril. He’s as good a politician as I’ve ever seen…..And I think he’s genuine…..” ~ Gov. Chris Christie

My Democratic friends have gone into a full-blown depression, while my Republicans acquaintances rejoice like they’ve finally discovered the fountain of youth or something equally elusive.  The extreme responses were to be expected because the hype leading up to the debate was so over-the-top anything less than a physical fight would have been anticlimactic.

Still, I couldn’t help but wonder what kind of values we have when we’re willing to declare such blatant lies to be a winning tactic.  No, Mitt wasn’t pivoting to the center or in any other direction, he was flat-out lying…like he always does.  And no, I’m not about to make excuses for President Obama, but how soon we forget.

It wasn’t that long ago Democrats criticized the President for attacking Romney’s Bain Capital model.  The President persisted and what happened?  Joe Scarborough said he couldn’t believe the President was so lost without his teleprompter.  Clearly, Joe has forgotten the summit where Republicans were prepared to try to embarrass and upstage the President and he cleaned their clocks.  He didn’t have a teleprompter then.

Pat “white supremacist” Buchanan said,

“I think it was the best performance of any debate I’ve seen him [Romney] do. If I had to mark this as a 15-round fight, I think that Governor Romney won 13 of the 15 rounds.”

We can call this a three-round bout. Any good fighter will tell you the object is to let the challenger swing and punch until he tires himself out.  Muhammed Ali called it the “rope-a-dope”.

Now, I’m not prepared to say President Obama embarked on some kind of clandestine strategy, but past is prologue and by now we all know he plays a long game.  Just consider…what will be the expectations for Romney during the next bout?  How many lies did he lock himself into in the first debate in front of 70 million viewers?

Have some heart and take into account who is levying the criticism.  Romney surrogate Sununu said,

“What people saw last night, I think, was a president who revealed his incompetence – how lazy and detached he is and how he has absolutely no idea how serious the economy problems of the country are and how he has failed to even address them… He’s lazy and disengaged.”

In case you don’t know, Sununu served as White House Chief of staff under President George H.W. Bush and had to resign for bilking taxpayers out of more than $700,000 for personal trips; skiing, golf resorts, Republican fundraisers and even a trip to his dentist. On one occasion, he traveled to a rare stamp auction in New York City from Washington in a government limousine,  sent the empty car and driver back to Washington and returned on a corporate jet.  An absolute laughing stock, he was the subject of late-night television humor and dozens of newspaper editorials.   He was forced to resign after reimbursing less than $50,000.

The Republicans are paranoid and pathetic.  In the wake of the new unemployment numbers, were the Republicans happy to know more people went to work?  Of course not.  Odds are they are probably scouring their buddies trying to find someone to do a massive layoff.

They have an excuse for everything… polls are rigged, the media is biased, birth certificates are forged, unemployment numbers are manipulated, the sky is falling…and I’ll bet a dollar to a doughnut that unless they can steal enough votes, suppress and intimidate enough voters, that lazy, affirmative action, socialist, marxist, communist, terrorist, Kenyan, Muslim President  is gonna kick Romney’s ass.

I often end up thinking what really excites the Republican base is a lie over the truth (a common thread since at least Reagan.) It is now beyond doubt with “27 myths in 38 minutes” of the first 2012 debate. Google it. They actually, unconscious or conscious, are more comfortable with untruths. Perhaps, they think lies will save us. Kind of like an addiction. Wait until the palliative effect of the Romlies wears off.

Great article, and reader comment. Also suggest a Google search ”Lying for the Lord” – the dirty little secret behind the not-so-little dirty lies of Gov. (Bishop) Romney – whose sleazy, razzle-dazzle style mesmerizes the MSM and thereby the ”uninformed” electorate. Equally revealing info on Facebook, search “Feminist Apostasy.”

The Poster Boy for ”Presidential” is a Trojan Horse. His continual flip-floppery deflects from the chicanery of the corporate cabal, aided by evangelicals, maneuvering for control of the White House and Congress. A lie by any other name smells as rotten.
